Here at Mother Lode Van & Storage, we like to leave no room for error when it comes to moving your vehicle. To avoid any damage or issues, here are 4 tips on how to ensure a successful motorcycle shipment.
1. Remove Extra Parts
Whether it’s a classic bike or a custom chopper with high handlebars, chrome details or custom parts, we recommend removing any aftermarket parts that can be easily removed to prevent possible damage. Custom and aftermarket parts tend to be the most vulnerable and likely parts of motorcycles to be damaged.
2. Clean Your Vehicle
Although we do our own inspection of the motorcycle both before and after shipment, we highly recommend giving a scrub down before moving day. By cleaning the outside, it will be easier to see if any damages were acquired during motorcycle shipping. After the bike has been cleaned, take pictures of the exterior for your own records to make sure your motorcycle is in the same condition door to door.
Take the opportunity to make sure your fluids are right, the battery is charged, and the tires are properly filled. It’s imperative that your tire pressure is on point to avoid any wheel damage while loading and unloading the motorcycle from the enclosed shipping trailer. This may seem like common sense, but sometimes the simplest things to do are also the most easily forgotten.
4. Unplug Battery or Disable Alarm
There will be road vibrations and potential bumps during transport. To avoid an accidental alarm triggering during its journey, make sure to either unplug the battery or disable the alarm. By doing so you can be certain that your motorcycle won’t arrive with a dead battery.
