The area that is now the Pocket-Greenwood of Sacramento was first inhabited by the Maidu Tribe of Native Americans, then later by Portuguese settlers. It was mostly a rural farming area until residential development began in the 1950s. In 1958, The Lincoln and Parker Development Company purchased more than 700 acres along the Sacramento River, which they planned to use to create the community of Greenwood Sacramento.
